Knights Chess Interface

"The Game of Chess is not merely an idle amusement; Several very valuable qualities of the mind, useful in the course of human life, are to be acquired and strengthened by it, so as to become habits, ready on all occasions; for life is a kind of Chess, in which we have points to gain, and competition or adversaries to contend with, and in which there is a vast variety of good and ill events, that are, in some degree, the effect of prudence, or want of it."

- Benjamin Franklin, 1779

Several people reported a bug in Knights v0.5.6. It would not compile if you were using gcc 3.1. I believe I have found and fixed this problem ( with many thanks to our SuSE packager, Adrian Schroeter ). The fixed tarball has replaced the original, and can be downloaded now.
There is an interesting review of Chess Interfaces for Linux available at pro-linux ( In German ). Unfortunately Babelfish won't translate the whole page, so you'll have to copy and paste the Knights section to see what they say. Here's a snippet: "...probably is knights the best board for KDE and has the potential to become the best board for Linux at all."

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KNIGHTS! I opened a new project in KDevelop exactly one year ago with the intention of bringing a friendly, feature rich chess game to KDE. While we still have a way to go before fully realizing that dream, I want to thank everyone who's submitted bugs, asked for features, sent in patches, written me with their support, and downloaded my project. I would have gotten bored and moved on to something else long ago without all of you!
To celebrate, I'm prereleasing four new themes that will be included in the next themepack: Brushed Liquid, Staunton Wood, XBoard 3D, and Knights Audio themes.

I've recently started at a new job, so my "Knights time" for the next few weeks will be limited while I get up to speed and into the groove of things.
As regular visitors can tell, I've changed the site to use php and css. I'm still new to both, so expect me to make many minor tweaks as time goes on.

I just received word that there are precompiled SuSE binaries of Knights available! See the download section for links.
The download section has been reorganized in what I hope will be a sane manner. Feel free to drop by the knights-general list to tell me what you think.
